What it is
Digital smile design is not a treatment but a planning method. Your photographs, intraoral scan and a video of you speaking are brought together; tooth length, midline, lip line and facial proportions are measured, and the proposed form is prepared on screen.
Why it matters
The commonest problem in aesthetic dentistry is a gap between what the patient expects and what the dentist has planned. Discussing the design on screen exposes that gap before a single tooth is touched.
A step further, the design can be placed directly on your teeth in a temporary material (a mock-up). You see it in the mirror, feel it while speaking, and can say "a little shorter". That feedback is the most valuable part of the treatment.
Its limits
The design is a simulation, not a guarantee. Gum level, bone support, bite forces and the existing tooth structure determine what is achievable. Not every form seen on screen can be delivered in the mouth; those limits are stated plainly during planning.

After treatment
- Coming to the analysis appointment without make-up makes the photographs easier to assess.
- The mock-up is temporary; do not test it on hard food.
